Fellow Camper

Story

Fellow Camper is a folk duo featuring Lee Watson and Benjamin Roy. They sing in a close, two-part harmony style, drawing inspiration from Canadian folk pioneers who graced the stages of Toronto’s Yorkville music scene in the 60s and 70s. Combine that with a modern sensibility, and you’ve got Fellow Camper.

Lee and Ben met as literal ‘fellow campers’ sitting around the fire on the shores of Beausoleil Island in Georgian Bay, Canada, trading off singing harmony to covers of their favourite American and Canadian folk singers, from the Everly Brothers to Ian & Sylvia, Watchhouse to Blue Rodeo. After a few years of impromptu campfire serenades, they recognized their unique blend was something special and sat down to write music that would blend the best of the vintage and contemporary folk sounds they love.

Since 2021 they’ve played at stages across Ontario, including a set at Riverfest Elora and opening slots for Beta Radio and the Lonesome Ace Stringband. They released their first singles in 2023 and have recorded another half dozen singles which are set to be released over the next several months.

For the better part of a decade, Lee wrote and performed as a founding member of Vancouver’s critically acclaimed The Breakmen, and released several solo albums through the 2010s. Ben spent his late teens and twenties performing in professional choirs and several bands and completed a minor in Music at the University of Guelph.
