Founded in 1998 by music industry maverick Graham Stairs, Popguru Sound
& Vision is a fully integrated, Toronto-based music company whose core
businesses are artist and producer management; music publishing; sync
licensing for film, television and other media; and two record label
imprints: The Confidence Emperors and Popguru Sound & Vision.
Prior to starting Popguru, Stairs’ background was in doing A&R for Intrepid
Records, Latitude Records, EMI Music Canada and True North Records. The
strength of the company is its artists and repertoire. Popguru subscribes to
the philosophy of building long-term careers for its artists and songwriters.
The company’s mandate is to develop Canadian artists and repertoire for
the domestic and international marketplaces. Its artist roster includes
Grand Analog, Odario, Martha and the Muffins, the Wilderness of
Manitoba, John Orpheus, Sam Casey and Alex Exists among others.
Popguru Sound & Vision has a label wide global licensing deal with Linus
Entertainment. This agreement allows its record labels to have more
marketing muscle and a stronger presence in international territories. The
company has a growing music publishing division that participates in
various song camps and co-writing trips around the world. It has a wide
range of contemporary and heritage repertoire in multiple genres. Popguru
has partnered with US based Steven Scharf Entertainment for twenty plus
years. They have a successful track record in sync, especially with the group
Grand Analog who have had over seventy-five features in film, television
and commercials. Popguru oversees the needs of its artists today and into
the future.
