Edgar Breau is best known as the founder of the internationally acclaimed, Hamilton ON cult 70’s psych/proto punk band, Simply Saucer, but has forged a parallel path as a solo musician.
Schooled in folk song traditions, literary fixations and the fingerstyle guitar playing of John Fahey, his output stretches from 2004’s Canadian Primitive to the present release Acadian Drifter.
His bewitching melodies sometimes raw and unadorned at other times with lush arrangements and filmic ambience continue to get praise from rock critics.
As east coast Canadian rock journalist Bob Mersereau commented “This type of bard-like character usually does pop up from England, be it Andy Partridge of XTC or Robyn Hitchcock, people with a flair for language and a broad range of musical interests. Breau might be able to make some Dickension comparisons to his east end Hamilton roots, but I think it’s more the case of the strangest career in Canadian music continuing to give us great surprises.”
