Toronto’s Places Erupt is a tempestuous sextet that revels in their contrasts. They’re dissonant and danceable, celebratory and furious, manic and controlled. Visualize orchestral music, rock, shoegaze and post-punk swirling about in a tornado and this band is at its centre, flanked by defiant, dancing black swans.
Their upcoming ep 45, both lashes out and laughs at the terrifying times in which we’re currently living. Its lyrical content covers everything from Tinder to tourists to trolling, returning time and again to the villain at the centre of our current collective nightmare: the 45th President.
Their first album ‘Breathe A Storm’ (2016) was celebrated as “a beautiful blend of rock, orchestral and folk” (Divide and Conquer). Since then, with the addition of an effect-heavy guitar player, they’ve evolved into a decidedly feistier energy-packed ensemble with an explosive live set. Bloggers, their new single and video, was made with funds from a FACTOR grant they received last year. This is the first single from 45, which will be released in the fall, and which will be accompanied by Canadian tour dates.
