Maya Killtron makes music that is fun, feel-good and makes you want to rollerskate. Her vibrant style and lush upbeat take on modern boogie have landed her features in Noisey, Earmilk, & Huffington Post. Singles have appeared in episodes of Broad City, Kim’s Convenience & soundtracked collections for Swedish fashion house Gina Tricot. Her vinyl 12″ and limited edition 7″ vinyl have sold out to collectors and boutique record shops around the world.
The Toronto based singer, violinist and DJ now finds herself at home in modern boogie and funk. Maya’s records remind fanatics and newbies alike that modern boogie is not just a kitschy sub-genre of 80’s jeans and retro enthusiasts. It’s an entire culture of dance, music, music technology, and fashion.
Recorded at Palace Sound in Toronto her 2020 EP Fired Up was born of a partnership with long-time collaborator Gil Masuda (Love Touch Records, The Precious Los). The EP features a long list of instrumental local legends with arrangements all done by Killtron & Victoria based arranger La-Nai Gabriel. The music is every bit as joyful as Never Dance Alone but rings out with more confidence and maturity.
In addition to her career as a solo artist she is a frequent recording collaborator, writer, producer & touring/performing violinist/vocalist for many Canadian and International artists including Arkells, Polaris Prize-winning Haviah Mighty, Canada’s Walk of Fame, The Launch and is one of the voices of Eggo Waffles.
Partnering with Outrun Records and LoveTouch Records, Maya is set to release a slew of singles leading up to her 2022 sophomore album Persimmon.
