French Braids is the electronic artist moniker of producer, songwriter, engineer, and multi- instrumentalist Sean Fischer. The classically trained jazz musician turned producer has lent his hand to a variety of major international artists as a producer/songwriter including the likes of Zara Larsson, INNA, Morgan Page, George Maple, as well as Canadian heavy hitters BANNERS, Jazz Cartier, Anjulie, Virginia to Vegas, Ralph, Ryland James, Savannah Ré and more. With hundreds of syncs to date ranging from Grey’s Anatomy to Toyota, Walmart, Disney, Air Canada, and McDonalds, and with a variety of accolades under his belt, including a Gold certified record in Canada as a producer/ songwriter on Jazz Cartier’s single “Tempted,” he is now taking a major career leap forward and stepping into the spotlight on his sophomore EP signed to Sadboy Records for Canada and dance/electronic behemoth label Armada Music for world ex-Canada.
The Toronto-born beat-maker, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist moved to Havana after graduating High School. He got a student visa, albeit for a language school, found a rental house and started hanging at the legendary Escuela Nacional Del Arte music university where he took private piano lessons with the teachers, all Cuban jazz greats, and spent every day playing and jamming.
By now he’d fallen for electronic music and started branching out into remixes as French Braids for an international array of artists, including Grammy-nominated Australian trio Mansionair, South African superstar Sketchy Bongo, Swedish pop icon Zara Larsson, and rising Canadian club crooner Virginia to Vegas. Not one to sit still, he was soon doing artist production, working with cinematic-trap mastermind Lantz on Jazz Cartier’s breakout 2017 single “Tempted,” and again on the Ralph and Darcys neo-80’s collaboration “Screenplay.”
Fischer’s genre-blending music is a mix of chillwave, future bass, house, pop and world while his sonic inspirations include Odesza, Pomo, Disclosure and Ninja Tune legend Bonobo. But whether dropping a pop-soul-house track or a chillwave trap track, what connects Fischer’s work is his ability to bring his years of intense music education, live performance and composition into beat-making.
