Blimp Rock

Blimp Rock is a venture capital band founded for the purpose of raising $700K to produce a concert on a blimp floating above Lake Ontario. (Read more on Wikipedia).

Despite heroic efforts, Blimp Rock’s funding total currently sits at $ -2138. On the verge of financial ruin, the band/company has decided to rebrand in hopes of a clean start.

Welcome Soap Opera: the first album released inside a bar of soap. You can download it here.

Since the founding of Blimp Rock in 2012, the band has raised funds by selling albums and vintage office equipment such as rolodexes and floppy discs.

Blimp Rock also sought revenue through a 2015 legal dispute with the Toronto Blue Jays and buying the naming rights to Phil Elverum’s Band Naming Service.

Aware of the dangers blimps pose to birds, the band sought to give back to the ornithological community by donating their 2016 merch sales to build a blimp-shaped bird house.

In their latest burst of entrepreneurial ingenuity, Blimp Rock is releasing Soap Opera, featuring 9 fresh new tracks in chamomile, bergamot, and lavender formats. Safely nestled within each bar of handcrafted soap is a laminated download code.

How will their listeners get to the music? Will they immediately cut open the bars? Patiently lather? Blimp Rock trusts their audience will find a way.

Soap Opera will be released on June 16, 2017.
