AIKO TOMI is a crafty, hyper-energetic alt-pop artist based in Toronto, Canada. She started writing songs at the age of 9. Fast forward many years of musical exploration, including a degree in composition, her songs embrace a broad range of influences, from synth-pop, rap, industrial to classical.
Whether it’s in her music video for her debut single LOTTO, where she thrashes to a punkish hip-hop arrangement of the Japanese folk melody Sakura while sporting an “Asian auntie visor” and consuming five bubble teas, or at the beginning of her latest single, “Can’t Touch Me,” where she raps, “You never saw it coming ’cause you can’t see ninjas running in the middle of the night,” AIKO TOMI’s hybrid Japanese-Chinese-Canadian identity is immediately evident in her music and visual style.
With an EP scheduled for release in early 2021 and other projects already in the works, she’s looking forward to sharing it all over the course of the year.
